Solar Flare
Solar X-rays are emitted at the onset of a solar flare. A large flare can cause loss of HF communications through ionisation of the ionosphere. Complex magnetic loop structure and bright regions indicate locations of high solar activity that are likely to release solar flares or coronal mass ejections.
